We talk about Responsible Chemistry a lot around here. For us, the ultimate goal is driving positive change in addressing climate change by efficiently using natural resources, optimizing existing processes, and enhancing products and technologies through continuous innovation. From turning wood waste into cost-effective building materials to developing bio-based and circular products that reduce our carbon footprint, we are always looking for ways to do better for our planet.
While we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished so far, when it comes to sustainability there’s always room to grow. Our sustainability goals are the key to ensuring we align with our values and meet the expectations of our key stakeholders, including our associates, suppliers, and customers.
Our goal is 20% reduction in emissions by 2030—and that kind of goal requires concrete steps. Good thing we’re up for the challenge. Through resource optimization, process improvements, and continuous innovation, we are ready to make this lofty goal a reality.
Innovation is at the core of everything, especially our commitment to sustainability. By 2030, we are determined to ensure that all our new products incorporate sustainable attributes. This means focusing on energy efficiency, material reduction, sustainable raw materials, circular economy principles, and other factors that contribute to a greener future.
The well-being of our associates is non-negotiable. By 2022, we will introduce a voluntary well-being program that addresses the physical, mental, and financial well-being of our team. Our goal is to achieve 50% associate participation in the program by 2025. We are also committed to maintaining a strong well-being index in the Gallup engagement survey, aiming for the 50th percentile. Our ultimate objective is to ensure zero recordable injuries for our associates and contractors.
By 2025, we have set a target to achieve an impressive 80% reduction in spill mass and releases. To accomplish this, a Spills Reduction Team meets routinely to evaluate the spills reported. Each site chooses a spill reduction tool that allows them to evaluate the spills occurring at the site and find opportunities to reduce or eliminate occurrences.
Transparency is vital—that’s why we adhere to the principles of the Responsible Care Product Safety Code. We consistently communicate with our key stakeholders about our stewardship programs. From rigorous risk reviews to the reduction of substances of concern, we are unwavering in our dedication to product stewardship and ensuring the safety of our products.
