Hexion Specialty Chemicals focuses on being a leading supplier of high purity phenol novolac and cresol novolac resins for the electronics market – resins that are used in the fabrication of computers, cameras, televisions, etc.
Custom Products
We’re proud to partner with our customers to assure resin and system compatibility and easy processing, thus raising prepreg productivity and quality. We customize our products to support customers in tailoring prepreg formulations for specific PCB applications – single- or multi-layer, one-sided or two, rigid or flexible. We understand the fast-evolving performance requirements for PCB laminates and work hard to keep our Durite® resins at the forefront of technology.
Four recent examples of state-of-the-art solutions from Hexion Specialty Chemicals are:
Low melting point curing agents (superior rheological properties)
Halogen-free curing agents based on nitrogen
Hydrophobic curing agents based on dicyclopentadiene-phenol adducts
“Green” and flexibilized (toughened) resins
High Performance Electronics
Our high temperature-resistant phenol novolac curing agent (hardener) such as SD-1731 is an excellent resin to protect memory chips that go on a printed circuit board (PCB) laminate. In order to prepare this PCB laminate, our resin such as SD-1708 (PF novolac) or SD-1508 (Bisphenol A novolac) is utilized as an epoxy curing agent to provide the high crosslink density with the glass fiber.
For very high performance electronics, we manufacture these resins in Louisville, Kentucky and supply all over the world – we ship these resins to Europe, UK, China, Taiwan, Korea, Japan and Singapore.
Advantages of Using Durite Novolacs as Epoxy Curing Agents
Epoxy resin systems using consistently uniform Durite® novolacs offer specific advantages for the CCL/PCB market:
And for the chip encapsulants (memory packaging) formulators:
Because prepreggers use different processing systems with different flow characteristics, Hexion's products are available in a range of viscosities and other parameters.
