Hexion Specialty Chemicals has the ability to handle and manufacture novolacs and resoles based on substituted phenols/alkylated phenols.
Alkylated phenols such as tert-butyl phenol, octyl phenol and nonyl phenol offer special properties such as:
- High moisture resistance
- Excellent flexibility (hence toughness)
- Ability to film-form
- Low dielectric constant
- Range of softening point – very low to high
- Excellent adhesion
These resins find numerous applications ranging from:

These resins can be in the form of solid flakes as well as in solutions. Solvents such as ketones and alcohols are typical when providing solution resins.
