EPON™ Resin 1001-K-65

Product Description

EPON™ Resin 1001-K-65 is a 65% solids solution of EPON Resin 1001F-type epoxy resin in tertiary-butyl acetate solvent (TBAC).  The EPON Resin 1001F is derived from Bisphenol-A and epichlorohydrin.  Systems based on EPON Resin 1001-K-65 can be formulated to have superior chemical resistance, corrosion resistance, and low color.  A wide variety of curing agents can be used with EPON 1001-K-65 including aliphatic amines, amine adducts and polyamidoamines.

TBAC solvent is VOC-exempt as well as non-HAPS. This means that EPON Resin 1001-K-65 epoxy solution is zero VOC 1 and non-HAPs 2. This offers the coatings formulator a unique opportunity to make lower VOC coatings.   Additionally, EPON Resin 1001-K-65 is a relatively low viscosity epoxy solution offering easier handling and coating preparation.

The VOC-exempt status of TBAC was finalized in December 2004, via final rule from the U.S. EPA.  State and local VOC definitions have generally been updated and formulators should verify that these match the EPA ruling.

Application Areas/Suggested Uses

Low VOC Coatings for:

  • Marine and Industrial Maintenance coatings
  • Masonry and concrete coatings
  • Metal finishing coatings

Benefits

  • Epoxy resin solution which is VOC-exempt and also non-HAP.
  • Balanced evaporation rate since tertiary-butyl acetate (TBAC) is an intermediate evaporating solvent
  • Easily handled solution that is readily thinned or reduced with other organic solvents (e.g., propylene glycol methyl ether, Aromatic 100, methyl n-amyl ketone).
  • Crystal clear solution requiring no additional filtration.
