    SPE 135502: Proppant Selection and Its Effect on the Results of Fracturing Treatments Performed in Shale Formations

    Abstract:

    To better define what constitutes the most effective proppant for a particular application, field cases are presented that focus on the impact of proppant selection in a number of wells completed in various shale formations. The analysis examined the production history associated with a variety of proppant choices. In an effort to better understand the production results, a series of lab tests were performed on the proppants utilized in the field cases. These tests attempted to establish how factors such as proppant fines, cyclic stress, embedment, proppant flowback, and scaling could be used to explain and support the results of the field cases.

     

    SPE 119545: Determining Propped Fracture Width from a New Tracer Technology

    Abstract:

    A new tracer technology has been recently introduced and field tested. Resin coated proppants with a built-in tag are activated by a logging tool that not only identifies the location of the tagged proppant, but can also be used to develop other valuable information including propped fracture width. The test procedures and resulting data that contributed to the development of this new method to calculate propped fracture width are discussed.

     

    SPE 109969: A New Environmentally Acceptable Technique of Determining Propped Fracture Height and Width

    Abstract:

    A new technology that can generate valuable data on propped fracture height, as well as insight into propped fracture width is discussed. In this advanced technology, a non-radioactive tagging additive is incorporated into the resin coating of proppants.

    Using Long Term Conductivity Tests to Differentiate Products 

    Abstract:

    It has become increasingly difficult to determine if one proppant is superior to another or whether they are in fact interchangeable. The "long term conductivity test" has been viewed as the ultimate measure of a product's performance properties, but is only a good method of comparison if all the factors are weighed.
