Hexion Joins Forces with South African Wind Energy Startup
Isivunguvungu Wind Energy Converter (I-WEC) is a new engineering venture specializing in the manufacture of state-of-the-art wind turbines for the here-to-fore untapped South African market. This fledgling company, which is pushing the technology envelope with some of the most advanced rotor blade designs in the world, selected Hexion as its source for high quality epoxy resin infusion systems.

Since 2010, Hexion’s engineers have collaborated with I-WEC, assisting with resin selection and other aspects of design, such as site set-up and the management of material flow through the site, taking into account local, specific requirements to ensure that resins are used efficiently and costs are controlled while quality is maintained.

“Hexion is committed to our customers’ success. Sharing our global experience and resin expertise to help young companies like I-WEC make smart choices early on helps our partners negotiate technical and budgetary considerations to grow sensibly and sustainably,” says Hexion Business Director Johannes Meunier. “And of course, we’re a global company, which means we are able to supply cutting-edge products of consistently high quality anywhere in the world.”

Some of the products Hexion provides for I-WEC are:
• EPIKOTE™ RIM 135 resin, a standard, low-viscosity, fast-reacting, low-exotherm infusion system for shear web infusion
• Bonding paste
• A hand laminating system for overlaminating at the root or trailing edge/leading edge areas
