Astro Mel™ 400

Description

Astro Mel 400 is a liquid, partially methylated melamine resin.

Application

Astro Mel 400 is a waterborne resin that can be used to crosslink hydroxy-functional polymers in formulations used for wood and metal coatings, nonwoven binders, and textile finishing. In most cases, Astro Mel 400 provides adequate cure response without the addition of a strong acid catalyst. To promote cure at lower bake temperatures, the use of a blocked acid catalyst is recommended.

Benefits

Astro Mel 400 can improve the solvent, stain, mar, and block resistance of wood coatings and the hardness, impact and solvent resistance of metal coatings. In nonwovens and textile applications, this resin yields firm, resilient finishes that are highly abrasion and solvent resistant. Additionally, Astro Mel 400 offers good formulated stability and adequate cure response at temperatures below 160 °C.
