EPIKOTE™ Resin 3540-WY-55

Product Description

EPIKOTE Resin 3540-WY-55 is a 55 percent solids dispersion of EPIKOTE Resin 1007 in water and 2-propoxyethanol.This resin is compatible with a variety of aminoplast resins and is stable with a wide range of solvents. EPIKOTE Resin 3540-WY-55 may be formulated to low VOC coatings with excellent adhesion to steel or aluminium. When cross-linked with an appropriate melamine or urea-formaldehyde resin and baked, epoxy coatings can be obtained that offer performance comparing favourably to solvent-borne epoxy coatings. In order to obtain adequate cure in baked films, it is necessary to use an acid catalyst. Low levels of catalyst will exhibit a gradual loss of cure after one week of storage.

Application Areas/Suggested Uses

EPIKOTE Resin 3540-WY-55 was primarily designed for use in formulating industrial baking finishes, film adhesives/primers and fibre finishes/binders. It may also be used as sole resin or as modifier in industrial ambient cure primers, glossy enamels and clear coatings in conjunction with curing agents that offers quick coalescing films with short lacquer dry times.

Benefits

  • Nonionic stable dispersion of high molecular weight Bisphenol A resin
  • May be formulated to low VOC coatings
  • Imparts good adhesion to steel or aluminum
  • Stable with a wide range of solvents
  • Modifier for other waterborne resins.

Safety, Storage & Handling

Please refer to the MSDS for the most current Safety and Handling information.

EPIKOTE Resin 3540-WY-55 should be stored in tightly sealed containers in a dry location at temperatures between 10 and 27°C. Under these conditions the shelf life should be a minimum of one year from date of certification. Elevated temperatures or freezing conditions will accelerate particle settling which will require re-dispersion with moderate agitation. Do not allow the product to freeze. To avoid skinning or surface drying, do not leave the product uncovered for extended period of time. If need arises to store partially filled drums, replace the plastic top-sheet onto the surface of the liquid product.
