A Policy of Transparency

Being open about our results is fundamental at Hexion. Below you will find measures of our progress and performance in matters of sustainability, with a focus on operational excellence pertaining to the environment, health and safety. If you have questions not addressed here, please contact: sustainability@hexion.com .

Net Energy Consumption and Carbon Footprint

Net Energy Consumption and GWP

Hexion's Net Energy Consumption has been increasing, in conjunction with increasing production volume. However, the Global Warming Potential (GWP) associated with that energy consumption has decreased between 2013 and 2014 due to projects being completed which moved us from using greater to lesser greenhouse gas emitting fuels.

Total Carbon Footprint

Total Carbon Footprint

The Total Carbon Footprint includes both the GWP Emissions from energy consumption, as well as the GWP emissions resulting from production. This varies in relation to the mix of production, which is driven by market demand.

GHG Intensity

GHG Intensity

Over the past few years the GWP Intensity (Global Warming Potential Emissions divided by Total Production) has varied as the mix of products produced has changed to meet market demands, and as facilities have been added or removed from our production portfolio.

Near miss

Near Miss/Concern Reporting Count

Hexion has increased and maintained the reporting of near miss and employee concerns to be proactive in addressing safety issues. Ones involving Severe Incidents Factors (SIFs)are also identified to help reduce these critical exposures.

Environmental Events

Environmental Events

Through focused efforts to reduce spills and releases, and improved permit compliance, the Environmental Events metric has shown a solid decline over the last 7 years.

Safety Performance

The Occupational Injury and Illness Rate (OIIR) had been on a steady decline until 2011. Since then we have seen flat performance. The company has embarked on a safety culture and risk reduction initiative to reduce this rate.
