Hexion’s passionate and engaged associates strive to operate efficiently and create a safe work and operations environment.  This includes continued efforts to minimize our impact to the planet. Additionally, Earth Day 2020 marks the 50th anniversary of the environmental movement to address climate change.

Have you ever thought about how Hexion products contribute to limiting the impact to climate change?

We can be very proud of the contributions Hexion products enable. Take engineered wood as an example. Hexion resins enable the use of up to 99% of a tree versus only 52% for solid wood, eliminating waste.

Sustainably managed forests and their wood output, act as a carbon sink, storing carbon for the life of the product. An average single family home in the United States stores the equivalent to 34 tons for CO2 which equates to 84,367 miles driven by an average passenger vehicle. Wood construction also requires less energy and results in fewer greenhouse gas emissions than other building material such as concrete or steel.

Hexion’s products have a sustainable story to tell whether it be enabling longer and stronger wind turbine blades which can generate more renewable energy, or our waterborne epoxy resins decreasing emissions by replacing solvents with waterborne resins which has helped China to realize a tangible improvement in air quality, while also enhancing worker safety.

Reducing our impact to climate change is more important than ever. It takes all of us, over time to make a difference, and we can. Check out some of the things we can do as individuals to make a difference

What do you plan to do to support our commitment to climate change? How do you plan to celebrate Earth Day 2020 in the midst of our current pandemic? Be creative!
